Ptosis Surgery Los Angeles, Torrance, South Bay California
Ptosis is the medical term to describe droopy eyelids that partially or completely blocks one's vision. It is a common problem encountered as people age. The muscle responsible for lifting the eyelids stretches and thins through time causing the eyelids to droop creating a sad and/or tired look to one's appearance. A good sign that you need ptosis repair is if you noticed that your eyes look smaller and you tend to see better when you use your fingers to hold your eyes open. A lot of people experience muscle strain from constantly having to lift their eyebrows so that they can raise their eyelids to see better, resulting in frequent headaches. Other people who suffer from allergies or dry eyes tend to rub their eyes often which weaken eyelid muscles and as a result cause ptosis.
The surgery to correct ptosis can be combined with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty or performed on its own. It takes great precision to achieve an appropriate degree of symmetry. There are more muscles involved in closing the eye than in opening it as a bio-physiologic response to protect such a vital organ as the eye. Having expert knowledge as an eyelid/oculoplastic specialist, Dr. Liu knows how to manipulate the muscles in both raising and closing the eyelid which is crucial to the success of this procedure. The surgery is performed under light sedation with local anesthesia and takes about 30-45 minutes to perform.
